What is a Birth Certificate?

A Birth Certificate is an official legal document that records the birth of a child, including name, date of birth, place of birth, and parent details. It is issued by the Village Council / Union Council and registered with NADRA.

Why is a Birth Certificate important?

A Birth Certificate is required for B-Form (CRC), school admission, passport, visa, CNIC issuance, and as legal proof of age and identity.

Who can apply for a Birth Certificate?

The father, mother, legal guardian, or an authorized representative can apply with valid supporting documents.

What documents are required for Birth Registration?

Generally required documents include parents’ CNIC copies, hospital birth slip or affidavit (for home birth), Nikahnama, and the Union Council application form.

Within how many days should a birth be registered?

A birth should be registered within 60 days. Late registration is allowed but may require affidavits and additional verification.

Can I register a birth after many years?

Yes, late birth registration is possible. Additional documents, affidavits, and Union Council approval are required, and processing time may be longer.

Is hospital birth slip mandatory?

Yes, for hospital births the birth slip is mandatory. For home births, an affidavit and witness statements are required.

Is it compulsory to enter the child’s name in Urdu?

Most Union Councils require both English and Urdu names for official records and NADRA registration.

Can the child’s name be changed later?

Yes, name correction or change can be done through the Union Council with supporting documents and NADRA update if CRC is issued.

How long does it take to get a Birth Certificate?

Normal processing time is 3 to 7 working days. Late or correction cases may take longer.

What is the difference between Birth Certificate and B-Form?

The Birth Certificate is issued by the Union Council, while the B-Form (CRC) is issued by NADRA. Both are separate but linked documents.

Can I apply for a Birth Certificate online?

Some cities allow online applications, but physical verification is usually required before the certificate is issued.

What if parents are not married?

Birth registration is still possible but may require affidavits and additional legal verification as per Union Council policy.

Can foreigners register a birth in Pakistan?

Yes. Rule 10 specifically allows registration under the 'Transgender' category in Form-A.

Can I apply after 7 years?

Yes. Per Rule 15, applications after 7 years are verified by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital and forwarded to the Director.
